The Best Of Mascaras

Monday, 25 January 2016
Mascara is that one life saving product, the product you'd pick to have with you on a desert island and the product you'd put on if you only had time to do one thing. It's probably the first makeup item you ever tried as an awkward pre teen rocking those blue clumpy lashes. Even on customers a smoky eye can be transformed with a quick slick of black mascara. However I feel it's also a product we don't stay loyal too, even if we find the holy grail of Mascaras that one perfect brush that glides on with just the right amount of volume, length and that sex kitten flutter, we still seem to think that maybe, just maybe they'll be something even more incredible! Or is that just me huh? Anyway here are my top 5 tried and tested Mascaras (trust me I've tried soooooo many) that are worth staying loyal too.

Loreal telescopic mascara £11.99

First buying this as recommendation from my fave YouTuber Carli Bybel, her lashes are amazing right? And to this day I can honestly say it's the only mascara I have repurchased! It has a tiny little combed plastic brush, these brushes are made mainly to lengthen and separate giving definition. I personally prefer these tiny brushes over bristles as I like sky high length, however this can create volume if you zig zag the brush on the base of your lashes. The packaging is beautiful and looks expensive silver and designed like a telescope. Overall my only fault on this mascara is how quickly I use it (I like to pack on a lot of product) but that's the reason I went for cheaper drug store Mascaras anyway.

 Lancôme grandiose £22.50

Beautiful swanky packaging with the rose design floating inside the bottle but fancy packaging comes with a bigger price tag... But is it worth the money? Damn straight! The curved brush wand may look awkward but it's anything but, it glides on the lashes so easy and it allows to really get into the inner & outer corners creating that perfect fanned out look. Probably the quickest application ever as you can make your lashes pretty huge within a few seconds, it's quite spectacular. However it definitely tends to give you the super long doll lash look without much volume so if you seek volume over length maybe go for the Lancôme hypnose mascara instead.

Benefit roller lash £19.50

I was extremely apprehensive to try this, as I'm not a fan of benefits other mascara 'they're real' despite it being the uk's best selling (tough to please you see😉) as it really dried out my lashes and was almost impossible to get off, resulting in me losing a lot of precious lashes trying to scrub it off my eyes! This mascara however is an absolute treat, I tried a small sample from the benefit counter and they taught me how to apply it correctly to get the optimal curling benefits with the hook and roll technique. My my my I was pleasantly shocked I've never seen my lashes double in size so instantly! It gives that really long, defined fanned out look which I adore yet your lashes still feel so soft and guess what the removal process was completely stress free as it comes off super quick. I think I must've raved about this to everyone and I was so impressed I kept putting shameless snapchats of me applying it captioned with loads of love heart emojis. I would even go as far as saying this should overtake they're real for the uks best selling title.

Maybelline lash sensational £6.99

The cheapest of the bunch but definitely not to be overlooked! Admittedly I brought this on a bit of a whim after reading that it's a dupe for roller lash (see above) because of its similar brush shape. One side being a small comb and the other more rounded spikes. I feel lash sensational gives a lot more volume at the root but this is probably because it's a larger brush. The formula however is a lot messier than roller lash as I found it clogged at the top of the tube! Overall this mascara is an all rounder curling, volumizing and lengthening and for that price why not give it a try?

I realise I have mainly included Mascaras with small plastic combed brushes in this post but that's just my personal preference, as they give long fanned out lashes. If you do prefer bigger bristle brushes that give plump thick voluminous fluttery lashes then my number one to recommend would be...

Smashbox full exposure mascara £19.50
It's a huuuuuuuge fat wand, like bigger than my eye! So for all you that crave extreme fake lash volume then I promise you this is the mascara for you. I wear this mostly to work as I have to wear Smashbox to promote the brand and it's something customers are always asking about (little disclaimer I work for Smashbox but all opinions are my own). It gives volume instantly but takes more layering to get the length I desire. On customers this mascara looks incredible and I can see the difference in minutes, mascara really is different for every one.

Thank you so much for reading & well done if you've got to this point as I know my posts are quite long but it's just because I have so much to say about each product!
Sadie xoxo
