Blog Planning Like A Boss

Tuesday 1 August 2017
I plan near enough every aspect of my life, studying, food and even nights out! It's like an ongoing joke with my friends because I have an itinerary for literally everything we do. We will go to a festival and I'll have exact timings of where we need to be at certain times (I made them queue up to see The Weeknd 50 mins before he was meant to come on). Yes, I literally plan fun! So why when it comes to my blog do I find it so bloody difficult?

Incomes Career Girl Daily with their new book 'The Ultimate Blog Plan' and I have never wanted to sign up for something quick enough! They're all about empowering women and helping them reach their goals. I am not even exaggerating when I say I literally read the book in two days. Not only is the packaging so pretty and instagram-worthy but it's incredibly eye opening.
I was so excited to do all of the exercises which taught me so much about what direction I want to take my blog in and most importantly how I'm going to plan!

Blog Planning Mantra's

1. Fail To Plan and Plan To Fail.

A very interesting point the book makes is that people struggle to plan their blogs as they tend not to give themselves a strict deadline. We do it at work so why not incorporate more structure into our own blogs? Especially if you want to take the blogging world seriously. The book includes a very handy tool for structuring this called 'the editorial calendar'. It works in a similar way to a magazine and helps you plan your posts each month by really getting to think about interesting topics you can write about.

2. Research is key

It is no surprise that the blogging world is becoming increasingly over-saturated and the book teaches you how to smartly research to ensure yours doesn't get lost amongst them all! By researching current trends, hot topics and what people want to read about you can then produce exciting relevant content. One of my fave parts is all the great social media tips for growing your audience, which comes with good research & planning.

3. If You're Not Enjoying it, Then Stop.

This one really stood out for me. Obviously not stop as in giving up altogether but if you're working on a post which is really uninspiring you then move on because blogging is meant to be fun! If you're not enjoying it, it will show in your writing. Everyone struggles to find inspiration sometimes but this book really helps you to brainstorm things you love to write about so your passion for blogging will be back in no time!
